چکیده

Eight compounds isolated from Lippia javanica and three compounds, from Hoslundia opposita were tested against Mycobacterium tuberculosis at concentrations of 200, 100, 50 and 25μg/ml. Compound “6-Methoxyluteolin 4'-methyl ether” isolated from L. javanica exhibited a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 200 μg/ml against M. tuberculosis. Of all the compounds tested against a drug-sensitive strain of M. tuberculosis, euscaphic acid was found to show the best activity exhibiting an MIC of 50 μg/ml against this strain. The remaining compounds were found to be inactive at the highest concentrations tested.

Validation of Antimycobacterial Plants Used by Traditional Healers in Three Districts of the Limpopo Province (South Africa)

The aim of the study was to scientifically evaluate the antimycobacterial activity of selected indigenous medicinal plants from the Limpopo Province used for the treatment of humans with symptoms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The leaves of five plant species (Apodytes dimidiata, Artemisia, Combretum hereroense, Lippia javanica, and Zanthoxylum capense) were collected from the Lowveld National ...

Evaluation of Wound Healing Actions of Hoslundia Opposita Vahl, Anthocleista Nobilis G. Don. and Balanites Aegyptiaca L

Hoslundia opposita, Anthocleista nobilis and Balanites aegyptiaca are widely used ethnomedicinally in Ghana in the treatment of skin diseases. In this context, antimicrobial potential of the three plant species against a wide range of microorganisms was studied. To validate the ethnotherapeutic claims of these plants in skin diseases, in vivo wound healing activity was studied, besides antioxid...

Crude extracts of, and purified compounds from, Pterocarpus angolensis, and the essential oil of Lippia javanica: their in-vitro cytotoxicities and activities against selected bacteria and Entamoeba histolytica.

In a recent study, various extracts of Pterocarpus angolensis were prepared and tested against bacteria. The acetone extract was found to be the most active against all the bacteria investigated, with minimum inhibitory concentrations varying from 0.0156 mg/ml against Staphylococcus aureus to 2 mg/ml against Enterobacter cloacae. Seven pure compounds were subsequently isolated from the ethanol ...

Isolation and relative stereochemistry of lippialactone, a new antimalarial compound from Lippia javanica.

The aerial parts of Lippia javanica were investigated for biologically active chemical compounds present in them. Chromatographic separation of the ethyl acetate extract of the aerial parts yielded a new antimalarial α-pyrone, lippialactone (2). Lippialactone is active against the chloroquine-sensitive D10 strain of Plasmodium falciparum with an IC50 value of 9.1 μg/mL, and is also mildly cytot...

Chemical Composition of Leaf and Fruit Essential Oils of Hoslundia opposita Vahl Grown in Nigeria

Hydrodistilled leaves and fruits of Hoslundia opposita yielded 0.54% and 0.65%v/w of essentials oils. Investigation by GC and GC-MS revealed that the bulk of the oils were constituted by oxygenated monoterpenes (81.3 and 81.4% for the leaves and fruits, respectively). The principal constituents of the leaf oil were 1, 8-cineole (72.3%), terpineol (7.2%), sabinene (4.5%), thymol (4.2%) and car-3...
